There's a LOT of great live music engagements happening in February, with Carl Cafagna's bands. Most are open to the public:

1. Saturday, February 4: Carl & the 'Metro Jazz Voices' will entertain at the beautiful Crooked Tree Arts Center, 461 S. Mitchell St., Petoskey. 8:00-10:00 p.m., $25., $15. for members of Crooked Tree

2. Friday, February 10: Carl will be playing and singing with the 'Bayou River Band' at the Howell Opera House, in the Accoustic Cafe, 123 W. Grand River Ave, Howell. 7:30-9:30 p.m., $7.

3. Sunday, February 12: Carl & the 'Metro Jazz Voices' will appear on the FOX 2 Morning Show, in Metro Detroit, between 9-10 a.m.

4. Wednesday, February 15: Carl & 'Metro Jazz Voices' live at the Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe, 97 Kercheval Ave., Grosse Pointe Farms. 6:30 & 8:30 p.m.

5. Thursday, February 16: Carl & 'Metro Jazz Voices' live at the Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe, 97 Kercheval Ave., Grosse Pointe Farms. 6:30 & 8:30 p.m.

8. Tuesday, February 21: Carl & the 'Bayou River Band' will entertain for Mardi-Gras at a Senior Citizen Center, Plymouth.

9. Tuesday, February 21: Carl & 'Metro Jazz Voices' will provide entertainment for the 3rd Annual 'Taste of Ferndale' at Boogie Fever, 22901 Woodward Ave., Ferndale. The event is from 6-9 p.m., and we perform starting at 6:30. $32., includes tons of free food from Ferndale restaurants, and free giveaways.

Hey, folks, NEW YEAR, EVEN BETTER JAZZ! Hope to see you often this year!

1. SATURDAY, JANUARY 7: 1:00-4:00 p.m., 'Carl Cafagna & the Creole Kitchen' performs at Shield's Pizza, 25101 Telegraph Rd., Southfield MI. There is a small cover charge, that supports the Greater Detroit Jazz Society, which puts on this monthly concert series. Our 6-piece New Orleans-style ensemble will knock your socks off! Shield's has great food, at reasonable prices. It's a win-win-win!

Carl Cafagna's December '11 Gigs

December 2011 for Me consists mostly of Private Music engagements, at Country Clubs and the like; however, I do have several Public engagements. I hope to see all of you once more, before the end of the year:

1. Sunday, December 4, Detroit Institute of Arts, 5200 Woodward Ave., Detroit: Carl playing tenor sax with the 'Detroit Tenors' also featuring Steve Wood on tenor, Scott Gwinnell, piano, Pat Prouty, bass and Sean Dobbins, drums. Performances from 1:00-2:00 and 3:00-4:00 p.m., in the Kresge Court, as part of the DIAs new 'Sunday Music Bar' series. Free with DIA membership, otherwise there is a small cover charge. This is a fun, upbeat band, in an inspiring spot, and it's Family-Friendly at the DIA on sundays!

2. Friday, December 9, 11:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.: Carl, playing and singing with the 'Bayou River Band' aboard the Detroit Princess Riverboat, on the Detroit River. Boards at 11 at corner of Civic Center Dr. & Atwater St., Detroit, near Cobo Arena. Tickets are $40. for Adults, $20. for Children under 12 and $36. for Seniors, and includes a Buffet Lunch. Cash Bar is available. Great New Orleans and Swing Jazz, and we stroll and play requests! Our new CD will be available for purchase too.

3. Saturday, December 24, 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.: Christmas Eve New Orleans Jazz! Carl, playing and singing with the 'Bayou River Band' at Best Sellers Bookstore/Cafe, 360 S. Jefferson, Mason. Free, and our new CD will be available for purchase. Great deli food, and a fun musical getaway, in the midst of Holiday preparation.

4. Saturday, December 31, 9:00 p.m. - 1:00 a.m.: New Years Eve; for any of you who would like to ring in the New Year Ballroom Dancing, Carl and the 'Jay Mitzner Orchestra' will be playing for Ballroom and Swing Dancing at the Grand Ledge Country Club, 5811 E. St. Joe Highway, Grand Ledge. The event is hosted by the Les Danseurs Dance Club, and reservations are available by calling (517)663-2801, or at lesdanseurs.com ($60. per couple, includes food & champagne toast). Great way to ring in 2012!

Thursday, November 17, 8:30 p.m.: with the 'Scott Gwinnell Dectet', Cliff Bells jazz club, 2030 Park Ave., Detroit. Exciting modern jazz music, composed and arranged by Scott and other band members, in a unique, old-fashioned club.

Tuesday, November 22, 8:00 p.m.: My first concert as a College Director!!! The 'Oakland University Jazz Singers' (yours truly directing), along with 3 instrumental jazz combos from OU, directed by Sean Dobbins, in concert at Oakland's Varner Recital Hall, OU campus, Rochester. A great mix of instrumental and vocal jazz by some up-and-coming college students; don't miss it!

Monday, November 28, 7:00 p.m.: with the 'Detroit Tenors' (yours truly and Steve Wood), at the Ann Arbor Downtown District Library, 343 S. 5th Ave., Ann Arbor. A roller-coaster set of music, featuring tenor saxes locking horns, with an all-star rhythm section featuring Paul Keller, Scott Gwinnell and Sean Dobbins. Don't miss this one folks!
