Carl Cafagna's December 2012 Gigs

Hey, folks,

Happy Holidays to everyone out there; I hope you all have a blessed and safe time with Family & Friends over the next month.  I also hope you'll consider coming to check out one of my public performances this month!  Again, I've got a bunch of private events, but there's a few that you can all enjoy; here goes:

1. Thursday, December 6, 7:30 p.m., FOX Theater, Detroit; I'll be performing in the Orchestra, for the 'Celtic Women' Christmas Show at the historic Fox Theater.  It's a 7:30 p.m. start, and tickets are available at www.olympiaentertainment.com, www.ticketmaster.com or at the FOX.  Should be a great show!

2. Wednesday, December 12, 6:00-9:00 p.m., Gus O'Conners Irish Pub; the 'Carl Cafagna & Friends' Jazz Trio will perform for 'Classic Cocktail Happy Hour' at Gus O'Conners Public House, 324 S. 4. Monday, December 24 (yes, Christmas Eve), 11:00 a.m., Bestsellers; I'll be playing horns and singing with the 'Bayou River Band' at Bestsellers Bookstore & Cafe, 360 S. Jefferson, Mason MI.  We'll play our usual New Orleans-style jazz (like we do all summer on the Princess Riverboats), plus a good dose of Holiday tunes, from 11 a.m. til 1 p.m.  NO cover charge, and a special buffet lunch, and coffee specials.  ALL AGES.  Please call (517) 676-3944 for more info.

- Tuesday, November 20, 8:00 p.m., Varner Recital Hall, Oakland University (Rochester MI).  I'm a college Vocal Jazz teacher, and my student jazz choir, the 'Oakland Jazz Singers' will perform in a FREE concert, in the beautiful Varner Hall Recital Hall, along with 2 instrumental jazz combos from OU as well.  Great college student vocal and instrumental jazz!

- Saturday, November 24, 6:00-7:00 p.m., Novi Town Center Square, Novi MI.  'Metro Jazz Voices' will sing Holiday favorites, acappella, for the annual lighting of the giant Novi Town Center Christmas Tree.  Event is FREE and open to the public.

Carl Cafagna's October 2012 Gigs

Hey, folks, it's a pretty good October for me; I hope to see lots of you out at these gigs!  Music makes the fall colors even brighter!

1. Friday, October 5, 6:00 - 12:30 p.m.: I'll be playing Drums for a total of 6 hours with 2 different groups at Cliff Bells, 2030 Park Ave., Detroit.  From 6:00-8:30 p.m., I'll be providing background dinner music, with the 'Scott Gwinnell Trio' (with Scott on piano and Dan Pliskow on bass).  Then, from 9:30-12:30 p.m., I'll be playing skins as part of a "Tribute to Pepper Adams", one of Detroit's greatest musicians ever! (greatest baritone saxman of all time!), which will also feature Steve Wood, tenor sax, Ingrid Racine, trumpet, Scott Gwinnell, piano, Jordan Schug, bass, and Mark Berger, playing the role of Pepper on baritone.  No cover for the Dinner Set, and $10. for the "Pepper Tribute" set.  Come enjoy great jazz and great food and drinks, in one of Detroit's best atmospheres!  Please call (313) 961-2543 for more info.

2. Thursday, August 2: I'll be singing and playing horns with the Bayou River Band, aboard the beautiful DETROIT PRINCESS Riverboat, on the Detroit River, for an All-Ages Public Lunch Cruise.  Cruise boards on Atwater St., near Cobo Hall and the Detroit Police Station Headquarters, at 11:00 a.m.  $40. for Adults, $35. 2. Thursday, August 2: I'll be playing Lead Alto Sax with the Tom  Allport  Big Band at 7:00 p.m., at the OXFORD GAZEBO, in downtown Oxford MI.  This concert is FREE, and All-Ages.

3. Friday, August 3: I'll be singing and playing horns with METRO JAZZ VOICES and the world-famous FOUR ACES, as part of the 'Friday Night Live' concert series at MORLEY PLAZA, downtown SAGINAW MI.  Park is right next to the Temple Theater, on Washington Ave.  FREE, and All-Ages; MJV does an opening set from 5:30-6:30 p.m., followed by 2 sets from the FOUR ACES, accompanied by the MJV Band (including ME), until 9:30 p.m.  A tour-de-force of 4-part harmony vocal music, the likes of which Michigan will not see again this year!  Don't miss it!!  Please bring a chair or a blanket.

4. 1. Thursday, June 7: I'm priveledged to share the stage with the legendary JOHNNY MATHIS, at the 'Sound Board' at Motor City Casino, Detroit.  Unfortunately, the show was already SOLD OUT before I was even booked to play, but I thought I'd tell you about it anyway; a dream come true!

2. Friday, June 8: I'll be playing sax with STEWART FRANCKE, Detroit's best Rock Singer/Songwriter, at 8:00 p.m., on the Maplewood Concert Series, 78 Kenwood Rd., Grosse Pointe Farms.

3. Wednesday, June 13: Playing horns and Singing, aboard the DETROIT PRINCESS Riverboat, with the 'Bayou River Band' for a Public Lunch Cruise.  Boards near Cobo Hall, Detroit, at 11:00 a.m., and back at 2:30 p.m.  Tickets are $36. for adults, less for children and seniors, and includes a buffet lunch.  Order at www.detroitprincess.com

Carl Cafagna's March 2012 Gigs

Hey, folks; Here's the story for MARCH 2012:

1. Wednesday, March 7, 8-10 p.m.: CARL, singing & playing with METRO JAZZ VOICES at the 'Jazz Forum' concert series, Grosse Pointe Unitarian Church, 17150 Maumee Ave., Grosse Pointe.  Tickets are $15. at the door, but are $13. if ordered in advance. Our 4-part harmony will sparkle in this lovely acoustical setting!

2. Thursday, March 15, 8-11 p.m.: CARL, playing with the SCOTT GWINNELL DECTET at the 'Jazz Cafe at Music Hall Center', 350 Madison St., Detroit.  $5. cover, for creative large-group instrumental jazz.

3. Friday, March 23, 7-10 p.m.: CARL, singing with METRO JAZZ VOICES at the 'World Voice Day Celebration', hosted by Lakeshore ENT Clinic, at the Baldwin Theater, 415 S. 3. Sunday, February 12: Carl & the 'Metro Jazz Voices' will appear on the FOX 2 Morning Show, in Metro Detroit, between 9-10 a.m.

4. Wednesday, February 15: Carl & 'Metro Jazz Voices' live at the Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe, 97 Kercheval Ave., Grosse Pointe Farms.  6:30 & 8:30 p.m.

Tuesday, February 21: Carl & 'Metro Jazz Voices' will provide entertainment for the 3rd Annual 'Taste of Ferndale' at Boogie Fever, 22901 Woodward Ave., Ferndale.  The event is from 6-9 p.m., and we perform starting at 6:30.  $32., includes tons of free food from Ferndale restaurants, and free giveaways.

Hey, folks, NEW YEAR, EVEN BETTER JAZZ!  Hope to see you often this year!

1. SATURDAY, JANUARY 7: 1:00-4:00 p.m., 'Carl Cafagna & the Creole Kitchen' performs at Shield's Pizza, 25101 Telegraph Rd., Southfield MI.  There is a small cover charge, that supports the Greater Detroit Jazz Society, which puts on this monthly concert series.  Our 6-piece New Orleans-style ensemble will knock your socks off!  Shield's has great food, at reasonable prices.  It's a win-win-win!
