Carl Cafagna's August 2012 Gigs

Hey, folks,
Lots of good performances this month; many are Free and All-Ages:

1. Thursday, August 2: I'll be singing and playing horns with the Bayou River Band, aboard the beautiful DETROIT PRINCESS Riverboat, on the Detroit River, for an All-Ages Public Lunch Cruise.  Cruise boards on Atwater St., near Cobo Hall and the Detroit Police Station Headquarters, at 11:00 a.m.  $40. for Adults, $35. 2. Thursday, August 2: I'll be playing Lead Alto Sax with the Tom  Allport  Big Band at 7:00 p.m., at the OXFORD GAZEBO, in downtown Oxford MI.  This concert is FREE, and All-Ages.

3. Friday, August 3: I'll be singing and playing horns with METRO JAZZ VOICES and the world-famous FOUR ACES, as part of the 'Friday Night Live' concert series at MORLEY PLAZA, downtown SAGINAW MI.  Park is right next to the Temple Theater, on Washington Ave.  FREE, and All-Ages; MJV does an opening set from 5:30-6:30 p.m., followed by 2 sets from the FOUR ACES, accompanied by the MJV Band (including ME), until 9:30 p.m.  A tour-de-force of 4-part harmony vocal music, the likes of which Michigan will not see again this year!  Don't miss it!!  Please bring a chair or a blanket.

4. Saturday, August 4: I'll be playing saxophones with Carl Cafagna & NORTH STAR JAZZ and very special guest RICHIE COLE (grammy-winning saxophonist from L.A.), at 8:30 p.m., at NIGHTTOWN, 12387 Cedar Rd., CLEVELAND OH.  Terrific 3 and 4-horn jazz music (some of it Hollywood-themed), in one of the finest Jazz clubs in the Midwest!  More info. at www.nighttowncleveland.com

5. 6. Thursday, August 9: I'll be playing horns as a special guest with Marge's Bar Band (sometimes called the Detroit Jazz All-Stars), at MARGE'S BAR, 15300 Mack Ave., Grosse Pointe Park MI.  Music from 7-10 pm, No Cover and great food & drink prices.  21+ only please.

7. Tuesday, August 14: Singing and playing horns with METRO JAZZ VOICES at 7:00 pm, at the SOUTHFIELD GAZEBO, in Historic Burgh Park, at the corner of Berg Rd. & Civic Center Dr., Southfield MI.  FREE, and All-Ages; please bring a chair or a blanket.  4-part harmony Great American Songbook tunes in a beautiful outdoor setting!

8. Wednesday, August 15: Singing and playing horns with the Oakland University Faculty Jazz Quintet, in the MEADOW BROOK GARDEN TENT, for the 'Jazz in the Garden' concert series at Meadow Brook Hall, ROCHESTER MI.  Some of you know I teach Vocal Jazz at OU now, and I'm pleased to join this fantastic diverse jazz ensemble, which also includes bassist Miles Brown, pianist Scott Gwinnell, drummer Sean Dobbins and percussionist/vibraphonist Mark Stone.  Tickets are $30., in include sumptious food, a tour of the Hall, and our exciting music.  A Cash Bar is also available; 21+ only, please.  Call (248)364-6263 for more info.
